About This Site

The backgrounds on this site are stills from some of my favorite films, converted into ASCII art and animated with a split-flap display effect, like the old departure boards at train stations and airports.

Each scene is sampled into a grid of characters ranging from spaces to dense symbols, mapping pixel brightness to ASCII density. When a new scene loads, every character on the grid cycles through random symbols before landing on its target, creating that satisfying mechanical flutter.

The home page rotates through all eleven films. Other pages feature a single scene that fits the mood.
